Dugout Dice — Privacy Policy

Dugout Dice home

Dugout Dice is a dice-rolling baseball game made by one independent developer. This policy covers the iOS and Android versions and the Dugout Dice website. The free online beta has been retired; the website now provides store links, support contact information, and legal documents. This page explains what information the game and website collect, what they never collect, and what happens to it. The short version: there are no game accounts, no ads, and no personal information — just a small amount of anonymous gameplay analytics, plus the app store's own purchase system if you choose to buy the optional upgrade, and (on iOS only) Apple's iCloud and Game Center features if you have them switched on.

What is collected

The game uses PostHog, an analytics service, to record anonymous gameplay events: things like how long a session lasted, and milestones such as finishing a game or a season. Along with these events, PostHog receives a randomly generated identifier that stays the same on your device between sessions (a string of characters created on your device — it is not your name, email, or any account), basic device information such as browser and operating system type, and an approximate location (city level) derived from your IP address. None of this is linked to your real identity, and we have no way to connect it to you.

On the website only, Vercel Analytics counts page visits in aggregate. It does not use cookies and does not identify individual visitors. The website does not run the game's PostHog gameplay tracking.

What is never collected

The game has no accounts of its own and no sign-in, so it never asks for your name, email address, or any contact or payment details. It contains no advertising, does not track you across other apps or websites, and no data is ever sold or shared for marketing.

Where your saves live

Game progress — seasons, unlocks, records, settings — is written to local storage on your device, inside the app on iOS and Android. Saves from the former browser beta remain in your browser's local storage. The website does not read or upload those saves; clearing your browser's site data permanently deletes them.

On iOS, if you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled, the app also copies your save files into its own private iCloud container so a career survives reinstalling the app and follows you to another device. Those files are stored by Apple, under your own Apple Account, and are governed by Apple's privacy policy — we cannot see them, and the developer has no server of any kind. Nothing else is synced, and no save data is ever sent to us or to any third party. Turning iCloud off for Dugout Dice in iOS Settings stops the syncing; deleting the app and its iCloud data removes the copies.

Game Center (iOS)

On iOS, the app uses Apple's Game Center to award achievements. If you are signed in to Game Center, Apple receives your Game Center player identity and which achievements you have unlocked, so it can show them in the Game Center interface. The game reports nothing else — there are no leaderboards, no scores, and no friend or social features. This is handled entirely by Apple under your Apple Account and Apple's privacy policy; the developer receives none of it. Signing out of Game Center on your device stops it, and the game plays exactly the same without it.

The optional upgrade (iOS and Android)

The game is free. There is one optional purchase — a one-time upgrade called Dugout Dice Plus, which unlocks cosmetic extras and a little more content. It is not a subscription, it does not expire, and nothing about the free game is withheld mid-play to sell it.

If you buy it, the entire transaction is handled by the store your copy came from — Apple through the App Store under your Apple Account, or Google through Google Play under your Google Account. Neither shares your name, email or payment details with the developer, and the game never sees them. The app asks the store a single question — whether this account owns the upgrade — and stores the yes-or-no answer on your device so it still works offline. No receipt, purchase record or identifier is sent to the developer or to any other service, and the purchase is not linked to the anonymous analytics described above.

Service providers

Analytics data is processed by PostHog Inc. (hosted in the United States) and Vercel Inc., solely to provide the analytics described above. They do not use the data for their own purposes. On iOS, iCloud save sync, Game Center and the optional in-app purchase are provided by Apple Inc. under your own Apple Account. On Android, the optional in-app purchase is provided by Google LLC under your own Google Account; the Android version has no cloud save sync and no achievements.

Children

Dugout Dice does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The analytics described above are anonymous for all players.

Your choices

Because analytics are tied only to a random identifier, we cannot look up data about a specific person. If you have questions, or want us to delete analytics data and can identify it (for example from the identifier stored on your device), email the address below and we'll do our best to help. iCloud save sync and Game Center are controlled by you, in iOS Settings.

Changes to this policy

If the game ever starts collecting something new, this page will be updated first, with a new "last updated" date at the top.
